Pullman Walmart Testimony Set For Today!

The Chicago City Council Zoning Committee won't vote on a controversial proposal for a new Wal-Mart on the Far South Side today as had been expected.

"Today we will be hearing testimony," said Ald. Daniel Solis, 25th, committee chairman. "We will be hearing dialogue and good, honest debate, but there won't be a vote taken today."

He made the comments after a brief, private meeting of key aldermen, Chicago Federation of Labor President Dennis Gannon and Wal-Mart representatives in the offices of influential Ald. Edward Burke, 14th.

Wal-Mart pushed for the vote to go forward, but at least one key project backer on the committee could not make it. Unions wanted the vote put off so further talks could take place.
