A witness said the crash happened when a truck cab with no trailer slid across the center lanes of I-57 and was hit by a tanker truck going in the same direction, causing an explosion in the cab of the tanker.
"For some weird reason, I looked in my rearview mirror exactly as it happened, and I couldn't believe it," said Dennis Jeray, 49, of New Lenox.
One of the drivers complained of chest pains following the crash, and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for treatment, Roccasalva said. Jeray said the man with chest pains was the driver of the first truck.
